Veran the Red

Aliases: The Red Wizard
Age: 63
Race: Human
Class: Wizard
Skill level: Adept
Schools of Focus: Illusion, Transmutation, and Universal
Minor Schools: Evocation, Restoration, and Conjuration (skills limited in these schools)
Appearance: Stands at 5'8 and weighs in at 185lbs. Build concealed by the heavy red robes he wears, secured around the waist by a leather belt that holds his spell book by a chain. Elderly features in the face due to the long white beard the reaches his chest, hair is also white and shoulder length. Either wears a hood or a wide brimmed hat, the hat being the norm.
Personality: Kind hearted and protective. Wise even beyond his years.
Weapons:
Longsword; though he is a Wizard who spent much of his life studying magic, among other things, he has some skill with a blade though only enough to be able to fend off common thugs or other weak opponents
Staff: His staff was crafted by the Grand Wizard upon his ascention to the level of Red Wizard Adept. Enchanted to allow quick casting without need of components and crafted through magic from an Ironwood branch to allow for emergency use as a bludgeon.
Background: Much of his childhood was spent at the Magi's Tower as an apprentice Blue Mage. When he reached the age of manhood he ascended to the level of Bronze Wizard and was sent from the tower and assigned as the town Wizard for the city of Dorin's Ridge on the northeastern edge of the land. He was tasked with the protection of the city while continuing his studies and eventually gained the governor's trust when he successfully warded off a horde of invading goblins descending down the Great Mountain in the center of the continent. Some years later, as the assaults on the city became more frequent, he was summoned back to the Magi's Tower where he received news of a growing evil that was yet unnoticed by those not of the Magi's Circle. He was then told to roam the Northern lands and gather what information he could. Before setting off on his task he was granted the rank of Red Wizard and presented with his new staff. It wasn't long before he confirmed what the Grand Wizard had feared and was further instructed to gather a party of adventurers for a quest to stop the spread of darkness before it could spread out of control.
